Sample Introduction:
Hello Everyone!
My name is Chris Dillon and I am completing my PhD coursework in Music Education at the University of Kentucky. I grew up in St. Albans, WV and obtained a Bachelors of Science in Education from West Virginia State University. I now live in Lexington, KY where I am attending UK on a fellowship and teach two sections of Music Skills for Classroom Teachers at UK and one section of that same course at WVSU along with American Music. I am also taking 15 hours of graduate credit in both Music Therapy and Music Education, so I know what it is like to have a full time job and be a student--I have done both professionally for years!
I have been teaching professionally since 2007, teaching private voice, saxophone, and piano since 2001, and have been consulting with various music non-profit organizations since 2004. I have taught Elementary Music in West Virginia and in the Bronx, NY, 1st Grade general classroom as well as reading and math intervention in West Virginia. This is my third year teaching at the University level and I am greatly looking forward to teaching this class and interacting with all of you!
One of my main passions is cooking and baking. I love exploring new recipes and making things up as a I go along. Usually, my efforts in the kitchen have a high payoff and I love throwing dinner parties and entertaining. I am also the proud owner of a white standard poodle named Nigel and just recently adopted two kittens named Oliver and Louie.
I just recently bought a house here in Lexington and have been in the process of remodeling and finishing several projects while taking five summer courses--I apparently wanted to die a slow, agonizing death over the course of the summer. I survived :-).
Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns throughout this course. I have set up office hours online on Sunday evenings so that we can Google Chat/Video if necessary. I am looking forward to working with you all! Take care and best of luck.
